1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy applies to the The Brief. – News That Gets to the Point mobile application (“the App”), developed and operated by CODJIN (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This policy outlines our standards regarding data privacy, permissions, and user rights for our Android and iOS applications.
2. Information Handled by The Brief.
We adhere strictly to data minimization principles:
A. Bookmarks & Saved Reading List
When you bookmark an article for later reading, the story title, summary, and source URL are stored locally on your device. This data is not uploaded to our cloud servers and remains strictly on your device.
B. Regional Edition Selection
The App allows users to select between 5 country editions (India, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada). This choice is saved locally as an app preference so the appropriate regional news feed can be requested upon launch.
C. Push Notification Tokens (Optional)
If you choose to enable push notifications for breaking headlines, an anonymous device push notification token (generated by Google Play Services / Firebase Cloud Messaging or Apple APNs) is used to dispatch alerts. This token does not contain personal identity information and can be revoked at any time by toggling notifications off in app or system settings.
D. Non-Identifiable Technical Diagnostics
We may receive aggregated crash logs and system telemetry (such as device OS version and crash call stacks) via standard Google Play developer tools to diagnose crashes and maintain smooth reader performance.
3. Device Permissions Used
The Brief requests only the necessary permissions:
- INTERNET / Network State: Necessary to retrieve the latest headlines, news channel feeds, and article summaries.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+ / iOS): Only requested if you opt in to receive news updates. You can grant, deny, or disable this at any time in system settings.
The App does NOT access: Location (GPS), Contacts, Microphone, Camera, Phone Storage, or SMS.
4. Third-Party Links & Content Sources
The Brief curates and summarizes headlines from established public media sources. When you tap to read a full original article, you may be redirected to the original publisher's website in a secure in-app browser tab. Please note that third-party websites are governed by their own privacy policies and terms of service.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
The Brief. is designed as a general audience news application and is not targeted toward children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Data Retention & User Control
Users have immediate control over their local data:
- Clearing Bookmarks: You can remove individual saved articles directly within the App or clear all local data through Device Settings > Apps > The Brief > Clear Storage.
- Disabling Notifications: Toggle off notifications inside the App settings or in your mobile device notification manager.
7. Security Safeguards
All network communication with our content delivery edge is encrypted via Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3 / HTTPS) to ensure that article transfers cannot be tampered with or intercepted on public networks.
8. Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When updates occur, the “Effective Date” at the top of this page will be revised. We recommend reviewing this document from time to time.
